My two brothers each have iPhones. meanwhile I'm stuck with a cheapo phone that it's not worth getting the internet on.
Option 1: Wait 5 months for my T-Mobile contract to end and then iPhone 4 me!
Option 2: Get an as-cool-or-cooler phone that's compatible with T-Mobile. It looks like the Google nexus One is my best option.
What do you say? Give me advice please! : )

Wait 5 months and the "wow factor" of the iPhone will diminish, and you will find that your brothers might not be as "cool" as they think they are? I find that those with iPhones, or "crack" berrys, or the like- are actually unintentionally creating a "uncool" factor in their personality. You can't have a conversation with one that is texting 24/7, you can't expect to actually think they listen to you while "surfing" the web on their phone, and you have to expect that anything you say or do in their presence might end up on Facebook, immediately. I frequently prohibit cell phones from my immediate area for optimal experiences between people.
ReplyDeleteIgnore Amy. Get a cool phone that's not an iPhone. iPhone's are overrated. If you can find a phone that runs on Android, go for it - it's open source, which means less Steve Jobs interference in the apps market. I also really like the HTC HD2 - although it runs on a Microsoft OS platform, it is a pretty lust-worthy gadget. The screen is small but really clear - you can watch movies on it pretty easily.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it makes phone calls, but who cares.
I have to agree with Amy on one thing - having a cool phone certainly doesn't help you be inherently cool; it probably makes you "uncool." But I figure, I've never really been all that cool in the first place, so I may as well have a phone that let's me serf the web while I walk into traffic...
I am in a similar situation - my contract is ending too. The moment that arrives, Al urges me to snatch up an iphone - or take his old one so he can upgrade to the latest and greatest iphone.
ReplyDeleteFirst is to evaluate what you really REALLY need and how often you use it. Also how good your eyesight is. As for me, I just text and occasionally call people. If i had the plan and the option, I would definitely be using the web. Pretty simple.
However, I realize that I might not use the iphone features to its full extent to:
*GIS my every move
*Update my FB status every 20 minutes (even though it would be a benefit for all my friends ;) )
*Impress friends with crazy apps
Both Amy & Mat have good points, but did not consider the obvious:
make sure your phone coordinates well with your outfits. It is definitely an accessory and it is the very reason why I considered the blackberry pearl - how cute is that?!
Thank you, Amy, Mat and Anne!
ReplyDeleteAnne has the most crucial point: fashion coordination. I wonder which phones come in bright aqua to match my purse...
Anyway, good points on iPhones having uncool factors. "Crack" berrys: haha. Yeah, I wouldn't want to be robotically connected to my phone while annoying/ignoring the people around me. Maybe sometimes...
I was totally set to get an HTC HD2, but then people on the T-Mobile forum were saying things like it was crashing or they were sending it back for some other reason. Maybe forum posters are biased. Maybe there are a million people with good experiences that didn't feel they had to post anything about it. I did hear the Windows Mobile OS the HD2 runs on isn't the "latest and greatest", but maybe it's still OK.
Yeah, I'm not sure if I even care if it makes calls. Hahaha!
Right, at least you can surf the web to see what traffic will be like as you walk into it...
Yeah, as far as whether I REALLY NEED the web, you'd have to have been there for my speech. I got the "regular"/"uncool or maybe that means cool" phone because I listened to the patronizing kiosk keepers who said I shouldn't get internet access unless I REALLY NEED it. Sigh...
Currently reconsidering the HD2...
